He was proud to be a member of the last graduating class of Wisconsin High School, 1964. Growing up he became interested in electronics. This led him to his first job at local Madison radio station, WISM, when he was 12 years old. Chris graduated from the Wisconsin School of Electronics in 1967 with an associate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. After graduating, Chris was employed at WHA in Radio Hall on the UW Madison campus. He then went back to work at WISM, as Chief Engineer, eventually being promoted to Director of Engineering for 14 radio stations. He finished his broadcasting career at WISC-TV as Chief Engineer.

Chris was a former member of Madison Chapter 24 of the Society of Broadcast Engineers serving as its Frequency Coordinator from 1986 through 1992. He also served on the inaugural Wisconsin Broadcaster Association (WBA) steering committee for its Summer Engineering Conference which was held each year at a different location around the state. Chris served for a time as a WBA FCC compliance inspector for its Alternate Broadcast Inspection Program.

Chris enjoyed watching old movies, particularly Turner Classic Movies, and once owned hundreds of movies on film. He always had to have the latest technology and was an early user of computers, cable TV, VHS, dial up internet, Ebay, laser discs and DVDs. Chris spent many summer vacations and Thanksgivings in Egg Harbor, Wis. He traveled to Jamaica and Norway for the 1994 winter Olympics. Chris enjoyed cats, ice cream, flannel shirts (favorites were called "wubbies") and Frank Sinatra.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy, son, Travis (wife Carol, sons David, Aidan and Liam), daughters Amy and Melanie (daughter Sam) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was estranged from his oldest son, Chris C. Cain (son Caleb). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bette and Wilb Cain, his brother, John Cain and a nephew, Brennan Cain.
